Lasalle X Curtin: The booklet.

I was struggling with the booklet at first, since it did not stay in shapes whenever I let go of the brochure. However, after much discussion with my project partners and course mates, we decided to just have fun and think of it after.

The processs of trying to figure out the folding, as well as test print on A4 normal paper.

The digital scamp.

Overall I really think my 'experiment' with this turns out great, check out the actual sized booklet~

The challenge was to actually get the correct printing shop to print the double-sided booklet properly. I printed the design on A3 paper, and the alignment was totally off. Really had a hard time and spent a lot of money because I keep going around Sunshine plaza and print it. At the end of the day, the one printing shop near my house at Tampines managed to get it just a tad bit off. So yeah.

Awesome time doing this booklet, now time to continue preparing for assessment! :D

Lasalle X Curtin: The Final Outcome & Reflection

The final outcome for the Curtin project Yohana and I were working on can be found here: http://seekingsingapore.org

It has been really fun working on this project, from going around taking photographs, planning for microsite structure, and also discussing with Yohana and sharing experiences with Alfo. Overall I feel that this project is pretty meaningful. I get to see the different culture and different light about Curtin university. I hope that in future there will be more collaboration projects like this.

Lastly I would like to credit Yohana for her awesome graphic skills, as she was in charge of the interface design and most of the layout for our prints. Without her I would really have a hard time doing the project and she has been nothing but helpful throughout the whole time.

With this, is the closure of our Lasalle X Curtin project. :)

Lasalle X Curtin: Update from Alfo & more about Curtin

After the last time he shared his idea with us, I asked him if he could share more about Curtin University. On Sept 11, he replied to share more about the school.

I have yet to share more about Lasalle, but I will do it some time later today :)

Lasalle X Curtin: Progress & VLOG~

Following up my previous post on the Lasalle X Curtin Exchange program, here is a vlog update! :D

Here is the FB chat between Alfred and our group (Yohana and I):

I mentioned this on my previous entry, but for convenience sake:

Alfo's concept is really unique; in the sense that it is very personal of his. It feels very much like a peek into his life, and I think the idea is quite creative. However, he hasn't told us about his final outcome so it's still too early to give him comments (I did ask him a few questions though ^^;;)

ANYWAY. Here is the scan of the site-map and planning I drew for the microsite Yohana and I are working on:

You'd notice that I contemplated between separating 'Arab Street' and 'Haji Lane' to two separated pages or not. Well, both places are really near each other but have different vibe. Plus we took really loads of photographs from each places. After much consideration, both Yohana and I decided to make 'Haji Lane' as a sub-page for 'Arab Street'. :)

As I mentioned in my previous post, Yohana was the one who did the interface. (Actually, these scans were done before she did the interface design, but my scanner went bonkers so I could only post them now... T_T;;) Right now I'm in the midst of coding the microsite. I am doing it using Adobe Flash CS5. :)

Okay, I shall end the update here for now. Post again when I'm done coding!

Lasalle X Curtin: Project Brief & Mind-map & Process~

Brief: To show the students from Curtin university in Australia about our surrounding. In a design manner, of course.

After receiving the brief about the collaboration project with Curtin University, my partner (Yohana from Image Comm) and I contacted our partner from there. His name is Alfred and he replied to our email almost immediately.

The three of us added each other in Facebook and use Facebook Message thread as our means of communicating. Alfo shared his progress with us (photographs posted on his Flickr), and then we updated him that we were still at brainstorming process.

This is the mind-map I did to start up with the whole idea.

These are the mind maps Yohana did.

Together with Yohana, we sat down and discuss about the possible few outcomes;

- To promote the fact that Singapore is a Fine city
- To promote the fact that Singapore has many tourist attraction
- To play off with the idea that Singapore is a Racial Harmony country
- To share about any design things in Singapore... but what?
And many more.

After much discussion, we decided to come up with something racial harmony-related; what about shopping districts? Many people do not know of other places to shop besides Orchard Road and Bugis Street. What about places like Haji Lane and Arab Street?

On 25th Aug, Yohana and I went around Arab Street and Haji Lane to take photographs, and then we took train and head down to Chinatown to take some more photographs. I uploaded the photographs I took on my Photobucket account and share it with Alfo. (Yohana's is still uploading at the moment).

(Lol at the uncle that I accidentally capture in this picture... Nice pose. XD)

While sitting down and resting in MacDonalds, both of us decided to do a simple microsite to showcase about these shopping districts as a cultural inspiration that affects the way designers in Singapore do their design.

We told Alfo about the progress and we received a good response.

Just last night Yohana emailed me about the interface design of the microsite (she is in charge of designing the layout while I do the coding and content text). Here is the screenshot of what she did:

Kudos for her hard work. :D

Now, to continue with the progress~
We are waiting for Alfo to share about his progress, which he said he would do this weekend.
